THE LONELIEST SUNRISE

Many climbers assume the closest place to the Sun is Everest.

It is not.

Because of Earth’s equatorial bulge, Chimborazo’s summit stands farther from the center of the Earth than any other point on the planet.

That places you roughly 2,100 meters (about 6,900 feet) closer to the Sun than the summit of Everest.

Yet unlike Everest, there are no summit traffic jams.

No queues.

No crowds waiting for their turn.

Just the first light of day arriving over the Andes.

A glacier stretching toward the horizon.

And the quiet realization that the highest sunrise on Earth belongs to those willing to seek solitude.

Kordillera Lonely Expeditions.

Mountaineering Rediscovered.
