THE FOOT SYSTEM

THE FOOT SYSTEM

Part 1 of 10 in Feet Finish Expeditions.

In trekking and mountaineering, the foot is the primary interface between the body and the terrain. Every step transfers load through skin, toes, toenails, arch, forefoot, heel, Achilles tendon, socks, insoles, and boots.

Most foot problems begin as small mechanical failures. A pressure point becomes a hot spot. A hot spot becomes a blister. A poorly trimmed toenail becomes downhill pain. A narrow toe box creates forefoot compression. Wet socks increase friction. Poor lacing changes load distribution.

Good foot care is not cosmetic. It is field performance.

This series will examine the practical foot-care system behind successful trekking and mountaineering: boot fit, socks, hot spots, blisters, bunions, toenails, wet feet, lacing, camp care, and the foot kit that keeps a trekker moving.

Protect the system that carries the expedition.
