The Recovery Pack

THE RECOVERY DAY PACK

Part 7 of 10 in Pack for the Mission.

Recovery days are not empty days. They are part of expedition design.

After altitude, cold, mud, rainforest humidity, or a long approach, the body needs clean clothing, hydration, food, sleep, warmth, and time off its feet. The pack changes accordingly. It becomes lighter, cleaner, and oriented toward rest, observation, and preparation for the next objective.

A recovery day pack may include a clean base layer, light fleece or sweater, sandals, swimsuit, small towel, book or journal, binoculars, camera, charger or power bank, personal medications, recovery snacks, water bottle, sunglasses, hat, and a light rain layer.

This is also where Kordillera differs from a summit-only itinerary. A well-designed expedition includes the rhythm between effort and recovery: hot springs, lodge decks, birdwatching, reading, writing, organizing gear, and resetting before the next mountain or forest day.
