ABOVE
PRESSURE

Cotopaxi. One mountain. A different way to ascend.

For Ariel Tweto, the Andes are unfamiliar ground. An ascent of Cotopaxi becomes a journey through uncertainty, physical effort, and the choices that make an extraordinary undertaking possible.

01 / The story

You cannot dream of climbing a mountain you do not see.

Some mountains are part of the landscape of childhood. Others enter our lives much later, demanding that we learn a new language of exposure, effort, and possibility.

Above Pressure follows Ariel Tweto into Ecuador’s high Andes as she prepares for Cotopaxi. The film is not simply about reaching a summit. It is about the distance between imagining something and deciding to attempt it.

From Quito to the glacier, the camera follows the conversations, preparation, apprehension, and moments of wonder that rarely fit into the familiar triumphal story of a climb.

Oxygen does not diminish the mountain. It changes what the climber can bring to it.

02 / The physiology

At altitude, every breath is part of the story.

The atmosphere does not negotiate. As barometric pressure falls, so does the oxygen pressure driving gas exchange. Effort becomes more costly, and the body’s response becomes central to every decision.

With Kordillera’s Rapid O₂ approach, oxygen is delivered in pulses and peripheral oxygen saturation is monitored during ascent. The intent is to support performance and reduce hypoxemia—not to promise immunity from the effects or hazards of high altitude.

The film examines a familiar controversy: is climbing without supplemental oxygen somehow more authentic? It asks a different question—what makes a mountain experience meaningful, and who gets to decide?

03 / The mountain

Cotopaxi is not a backdrop.

Ice, wind, volcanic terrain, fatigue, and the timing of a summit attempt shape the story as much as any person. Kordillera’s expedition planning brings together mountain experience, oxygen support, and weather intelligence, but no technology removes the uncertainty inherent in climbing.

Above Pressure is a film about entering that uncertainty with open eyes.
